At Stripe, managers grow teams and inspire them to do their best work. We’re looking for experienced managers to join us and help to build a capable and operationally excellent team of field engineers.

You will be responsible for managing part of Stripe’s nascent Field Engineering group, which comprises:

  • Partner Engineering; technical expertise applied to integrations with Stripe’s strategic partners.

  • Sales Engineering; technical expertise dedicated to Stripe’s most valuable customers, and prospective customers.

  • Support Engineering; technical expertise underpinning the foundation of Stripe: the operational ability to onboard developers spanning a broad range of competencies, technologies, and geographies.
  • As a manager of field-facing technologists, you’ll be expected to:

  • Support and inspire the team to do their best work.

  • Attract, recruit and retain the very best talent.

  • Set the team’s charter, direction, and priorities, while synthesizing input from business stakeholders.

  • Develop, refine, and optimize the team’s internal and external engagement model.

  • Remove friction and roadblocks from the team’s work.

  • Plan to a 12-month horizon.

  • Understands what makes teams successful and what role a manager can play in that process.

  • Is clear and persuasive in writing and in person.

  • Leads by example, by setting the right context, and by helping teammates do their best work.

  • Knows when to let a team work through problems and when to jump in to help.

  • Has at least a couple years of management experience.

  • Experience in a technical field-facing role.

  • Comfort and confidence in front of customers and partners

  • Experience building teams from the ground up.

  • Might be described as a tinkerer and technical generalist
